Ruby was rescued from a battery farm on the 10th of May 2008 and was one of our 1st 3 hens. We don't know exactly when she was born but was just over a year old when rescued.
We watched her bloom from being a scruffy, slightly bald, smelly hen with a comb and wattles that were almost white.
As she grew stronger and recovered, her comb and wattles turned red, her feathers regrew and she was a true pet.
Whilst Scarlet and Madge would be roaming the garden together, Ruby would be at our feet making little noises as she was stroked. She was so gentle and out of all my hens, there will NEVER be another like Ruby.
Ruby was taken from us prematurely in an attack by a dog. We could only console ourselves that her passing was instant.
